The platinum plan requires the purchase of park passes (at full rate). That does not, nor does any other MYW package keep you from purchasing discounted park passes. You cannot get the military tickets with any package, you must buy them separately, and all package require ticket purchases.

My understanding is that you just need a valid military ID. Nothing special is required to make the reservation, you just need to show your military ID at check in.

I just booked this type of vacation for 29 Jun to 5 Jul (note they gave me the discount anyway because it started before the black-out date of 3-4 Jul).

    The details:

Grand Floridian – Garden View Room
    2 Adults, 2 Children
Basic Dining Plan (the Deluxe wasn’t available with the military discount)

    Cost: $2780 approx.

It was apparently the last room at the Grand Floridian available for this rate for the time period. However, that doesn’t mean every room was sold-out, just for this rate.

I am not going to able to answer the first part about tickets, I would hate to tell you yes, and then have you find out later you do not qualify. I would suggest contacting Shades of Green, they will know for sure.

The second part, no, you will not get free dining. In order to qualify for free dining, you must purchase a package that includes a stay at at WDW resort (shades of green is not), and must include park passes (which you are getting for free/discounted). The only way a military member can get free dining is to stay at a WDW resort (at full price) and book the package to include at least one day park passes. You have to give up the 40% room discount and purchase one day park passes that you do not need, but in some cases, it is a better deal than the military room discount.

    Micheal:
I believe the offer expires Dec 23rd. I believe the tickets are like normal tickets, once you activate them, you have 5 days you can go to the park, that you have to use within 14 days.

    Tammy:
The husband gets his for free and then he can buy 5 of the $99 tickets for family or friends (aka- anyone). So no, she will not have to have an ID if he’s able to buy the tickets himself.

    Jamie:
For the dining plan, if you stay at Shades of Green, you can not get any Disney Dining plan.
And, what you and Keith are referencing to, about the free dining- that is only available : Aug 16 — Oct 3, 2009.

    Tim: Yes, exactly.
Your free ticket allows you to go 5 days to anywhere on the Disney property as much as you want. Their $99 tickets allow them to pick any one of the main four parks per day.
For $25 more per each of their tickets, their tickets can have added a “park hopper” option which allows them to visit multiple parks per day (like how your ticket already would have).
And/or, for an additional $25 per ticket, they can add on the water parks and DisneyQuest (virtual reality world).

As of right now, Disney has yet to even release packages and rates for 2010. First, you will need to wait for those to be released, and then sometime later this year, Disney will release discounts for January. The current military discounts end later this year, and are for US military only. There should be general public discounts for next year though.

However, on other phone calls, I have also been told that they are normal tickets, which expire in 14 days after their first usage.

Unfortunately, you cannot do both discounts (the military room only discount and the free dining). You may want to check prices with the free dining promotion, including a one day basic park pass to see how that compares with what you are currently paying. You will pay full price for the resort and you will have to purchase one day basic park passes for everyone, but the free dining option may be cheaper than what you have now.

Hi all. To answer a few of you… these tickets do NOT expire in 14 days like the regular Magic Your Way tickets. We used 4 days plus 2 water park in March, 1 day and 1 water park in June, and will be using up the remaining water park in early December (if it’s warm enough). Even if you are only going for 3 or 4 days, buy these tickets instead of MYW. You will save a bundle! Have a great trip.

Nope, no word yet. Personally, I am doubtful it will be extended. Typically military discounts are a one time thing, and they usually do not last a real long time, and then we don’t see them for years. I think a lot will have to do with how Disney thinks attendance will be without it, and if it is needed again to drive attendance to the parks.

There never was a mention of a future Canadian discount. Someone from Canada said they were going in October and wondered about a discount. The military discount is for US military only, and will not be expanded to other countries. There are very similar room only discounts for October, you should take a look at those.

Whether you are active duty or reserve/guard doesnt matter, you still qualify for the military discounts as long as you have ID…same goes for retired from AD/Res/Guards….we are retired (23 AFNG)and we got the discounts in May, stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort.

As long as you have a VALID military ID you will be fine.

Military memeber HAS to be present when tickets are being activated at any customer service window at one of the parks….they dont have to go to the parks with their party, but ID is needed to activate the tickets!

I talked to Disney today to verify the activation of tickets and they said as long as one in the party has a VALID military ID card the tickets can be activated…this includes a military spouse with their ID…so the actual military member now doesnt have to be present as long as their spouse or someone else in the party has their ID. They said they changed this due to some being activated when it was time for vacation and Disney wasnt going to leave family members out so they are allowing spouses with Military ID activate the tickets also!

At this point, I think it is extremely unlikely the military deal will be extended to 2010. We have not heard anything about it being extended, and with about 8 weeks to go until the start of 2010, we should have heard something. If I were you, I would look into one of the general public discounts, you can always change the discount if the military deal is extended.

He is coming home in december and on his post deployment leave we are going to disney. He doesn’t get his leave until January. A discount is still offered for AAA holders in 2010 but not for military? How is it that the men and women who risk their lives for our country and spend months and sometimes years away from their families aren’t getting a discount, but someone who pays to have someone else come change their tire gets one?

Do not hold your breath. We are not expecting any military discounts for 2010. We may see them for parts of the year, it would be a surprise if they extended for all of 2010. This has nothing to do with how much money Disney makes. Their job is to fill the resorts and theme parks. During 2009, they felt offering the military a great deal was a great way to show support, and fill the parks. It is likely they will look at 2010, and not feel the need to offer as many discounts. Military members can always take advantage of the discounts available to the general public.

The thing is… Disney should offer the discount every year, especially during war time..BUT they should only allow families to go ONCE. It is possible in this day and age to keep track of who buys tickets through the military. Busch Gardens does it every year. You can only go once for free. So, Disney should offer it again but only allow ones that were not able to take advantage of the offer go.
We were not able to go because my husband was deployed. But, it would be great if we could go when he got back.

Ash: Disney did put a limit on the special. The military member can only use their complimentary ticket once during this time and we can only buy 5 discounted($99) tickets during this time also. When there isnt a special going on there is always Shades of Green which is an awesome resort on Disney property and you pay by rank for instance my DH is a retired E7 master sgt in AF and we are paying $123/night. This is cheaper than most of the resorts that are offering the 40% right now! Plus you get discounted hopper passes from the military all the time! Shades does also offer R&R pkgs also…..

If there is a military discount for 2010, no one will notify you, you will need to watch for it. We should see it soon, if there is to be one. I would plan your vacation assuming there will not be, and you may be pleasantly surprised if there is one released.

I would suggest you try anyways, you never know if they will allow it or not. I am doubtful, they were pretty clear on the expiration date, but it is worth a try.

Jenn, The discount is not free for the active duty military, it’s 99 dollars for each person. Still a great deal and very much appreciated. Here is a link to the description. http://www.mousemisers.com/2009/2010-wdw-armed-forces-salute-tickets/

I just wanted to pass on that the information posted above regarding changes to the 2010 Armed Forces Salute program is incorrect. I just called the Disney World tickets office, and they say the offer will be the same as previous years (free for AD member, $99 for family, no black-out dates).

I would suggest you call Shades of Green, as they are the ones who administer the program, Disney does not. I have called them, and it is printed on their website with the correct 2010 information, $99 per person, no freebies, blackout dates.

Sorry if this question has already been answered, but what are the bottom line no bull discounts that disney will be offering through the end of 2010?

    Thanks,

    Erik

This page lists all the discounts that will be offered to military members in 2010, and these expire at the end of September. I doubt we will see anything further.
