2008 Disney VISA Free Dining

Disney Free Dining

Travel Dates: August 24 – September 20, 2008

Walt Disney World has announced the “Free Dining” promotion for the fourth consecutive year. Currently, the discount is only available to Disney VISA cardholders, though it will be released to the general public starting on April 10. With the “Free Dining” promotion, Disney resort guests who book a Magic Your Way package that includes both your Disney resort room and your Magic Your Way park passes, will receive the Disney Dining plan add-on for free for all guest three and older in their party.

For the first time, Disney World guests will be able to book the “Free Dining”, and upgrade to the Disney Deluxe Dining for the normal price difference, which is $32 for adults and $10 for children three to nine. The Wine and Dine option is also available at full price to add onto either the Basic or Deluxe dining plans.

Availability is extremely limited, and must be booked by June 22, 2008. To receive the Disney VISA cardholder discount, you must pay your deposit at time of booking with your Disney VISA, and you must pay the balance with your Disney VISA card as well, when due. As a reminder, this exact discount will be released on April 10 to the general public without the Disney VISA requirements.

To book this special Disney VISA “Free Dining” vacation package, please contact our great sponsor Mouseketrips, and ask for the appropriate code:

  • CMK – Magic Your Way Dining Plan
  • CMM – Magic Your Way Dining Plan plus Wine and Dine

They most certainly are, but right now, it is only for Disney VISA cardholders. If you have a Disney VISA, make sure you mention the CMK code above, they should look it up for you.

If your stay extends beyond Sept 20th will you still receive free dining as in years past?

Yes, as long as you check in by September 20, you will get the free dining plan for your entire trip.

You guys are freakin’ great!! I just found this site. You know, in the past I’ve had to check the “Specials” page every day just waiting for this discount to show up. Where in the world did you find this out?

Do you know if I am eligible if I have already booked my room through the Disney Vacation Club, but have not purchased the tickets or meal package yet?

They only way to get the free dining promotion is by booking a Magic Your Way package that includes both your Disney resort and park passes. A DVC reservation, no matter what kind, will not qualify.

We are already booked during this time frame. What time on the 10th can I start calling for the free dining?

You can start calling at 7:00 AM EST. Maybe I should have said 7:05 AM to assure you were in line after me. 😉

I have booked my dates for disney August 24th – Sept 1. I have 3 kids and I am staying in a suite in all star music. Do I still qualify for the free dining? Some one told me it does not apply to the suites.

Are you sure you get free dining as long as you check in by 9/20? Disney says NO!!

I have run into the same thing, but I just ask the CM to check with guest services. I have booked many free dining packages this week that have extended well beyond the 20th. If you are having a problem, just hang up and call back again.

    John

The family suites are included, though it has been tough to find availability on them, as there are not many of them to begin with. All of the other suites at the deluxe resorts are not included in the discount. If you are unable to find a family suite for your dates, consider getting 2 rooms at a value resort, it will be less expensive, and Disney will guarantee you connecting rooms.

Is there a limit to the number of days this promotion is good for? The DW website only allows you to book Magic Your Way passes for 10 days.

Nope, sorry. You must check in August 24 or later to qualify. You have the option of doing two 7 night reservations, and getting it on the second half, but you will not get it for your entire trip.

    Darrell

You must stay at least three nights, and can stay as long as 14 nights on one reservation. For some reason, Disney will allow you to book a 14 night package, but they only offer 10 day passes.

I just called and found out that the vacation we booked at the AKL isn’t included in the free dining because we are staying in a savanna view and not a standard view or a pool view. I think this is so unfair! Grrrrrr.

If you want a savanna view bunk bed room, you can get it, but I can’t find just a standard savanna view room. Just follow these five easy steps.

    1. Call back and change your dates to 9/14 – 24, the savanna view bunk bed room will be available.
    2. Have them add the free dining.
    3. Say thank you and hang up.
    4. Call back a few minutes later and change your dates back to 9/14 – 20.
    5. Send Keith a big thank you box full of yummy treats.

I’m too scared Keith. I’m afraid with all of the people calling today that someone will get our room and our dates….I called right when they opened this morning and was still on hold for over 45 mins which would give anyone else ample time to get our room we have reserved now. I’m TOO SCARED …. I’M JUST TO SCARED! :0) But you are SO sweet to try and help. I am just venting because I don’t think it’s fair and I can’t understand why it matters where you stay. Free dining should be free dining regardless of where you sleep! Ya know?!?!

No one will get your room. You are just extending the dates, then getting the discount applied, then reducing the dates back. Your reservation does not change, you have no chance of losing your existing room.

If I book Sept 20 – Sept 27 would all my dates fall under the free dining plan?

Alright Keith…..You TOTALLY deserve a box a treats as sweet as you are for trying to help me….. but when I called back I was told that the no savanna rooms bunk or standard are included in the free dining. (and for the life of me I just can’t understand it) They said we could have a pool room view that would be included but we have never been to WDW before and we heard the savanna views are really great so I guess we will watch my in laws eat free who are staying in a standard view room eat free. (bugger) Does free food taste better? I think it must! ;0)

We had booked the 17-31, you were right, they made me split the reservation to 2, one for each week. The 1st week I pay for the dining and 10 days of tickets, the 2nd week beginning the 24th free dining, but had to buy one ticket for each of the 4 of us. I really didn’t save the amount of the dining on the overall price, actually dropped the price by only $425.00 Why can you stay past the end date of free dining and get it for all the tickets, but can’t check in before and stay to ie: 31 and get the free dining for the whole time??? I’m really confused, by the way, I was on hold for 90 minutes from 7am this am to get thru…..Good luck to anyone trying!!!!!

I booked a weekend from 8/29 through 9/1 for the four of us. We are Florida resident, seasonal passholders. A one day ticket was included with the free dining package. I was told that since we do not need the one day ticket, each one of us would have a $75.62 credit toward passes in the future that would never expire. Is this true? We may not renew our passes this November, but do not want to lose a $300. credit. Thank you for your time, Sherry

  31. Keith Avatar
    Keith

    Sherry

You don’t technically have a credit. When you check in, each of you will receive a one day park pass (they will be associated with your room keys, same piece of plastic). Just make sure you do not use those park passes to get into the parks. If you do not use them, they will not expire, and you will be able to use the cost of the one day park pass towards the renewal/purchase of your seasonal passes. Just remember to keep them in a safe place, do not throw away your room keys once you check out, you will need to hand those over when you renew your passes.

    Keith:

Thank you. I am glad it will not expire. I understand that they are for one day, one park. Is there a set dollar amount they are worth if I decide to use them toward the purchase of an annual pass? I was told $75.62 for each of us. Thank you again, your help is greatly appreciated.

Ok, I am trying to book for free dining and just got the following email from my travel agent…apparently, our last night is not available for the free dining, for some reason?? and its on August 28! :

    Hello Melissa,

WOW things are changing quickly. We have now lost availability on 8/28, but this is what I have worked out.

8/24-28 2 rooms at All Star Sports with the free dining & 5-Day PH & WPF&M tickets, the price is:
    Your family =$—–

THEN what I have done is got a room-only reservation for each of you at All Star Movies, the rate per room is $92.66. I know this will involve having to do a room/resort move for your last night & NOT having free dining for that night, but it is the best I could do at this time.

I can continue to watch & hopefully a cancellation will come in & we can add the 28th onto your package,
You really will not incur any additional charge you would just have the inconvenience of moving resorts & you would lose the dining credits for your last day.

    ANY SUGGESTIONS??

Thanks for the note, sorry about the bad news. Here is what you need to do:

    1. Write your TA back, have them book the rooms for 8/24 for 14 nights each, I am showing both Sports and Music available.

    2. Have the TA hang up and call back and cancel the last 10 nights off of the reservation, giving you the nights you wanted in the first place.

    3. Pay the deposits as soon as that is done, so you don’t forget and lose the rooms (they will not be available in 2 weeks, I can promise you that).

    4. Ask your TA why you have to do their work for them. 😉

Let me know how it goes.

Keith this is the latest email i just rec’d after asking her to try the suggestions listed above….
PS We are wanting to check on Sunday, August 24 and leave Friday, August 29th and will need 2 rooms for 5 people at the value resorts. Is my current travel agents info more limited than yours?? LOL

    Hi Melissa,

I know this is confusing, but to get free dining you would need to add a minimum 1-day ticket, so you would be paying over $77 for a park ticket to get free dining at a $38 adult/$10 child credit. So it is not cost-effective that is why I priced just a room-only reservation.

For 8/28 All Star Sports is COMPLETELY SOLD OUT, that is why we can’t get the final night there, again I am hoping for a cancel & that we will be able to add it down the road.

Yes it is true if you check-in on the last night of the promotion you retain the offer for your entire stay.

    Great idea email:
Again I’m sorry but NO VALUE Resorts are available for the entire 14 nights. Even for your 5 nights that you want the only thing available is Caribbean Beach, no values.

We have a 2-week hold on both your 4-night package & your 1-night stay, I will check daily for a cancellation to add your last night onto your package reservation.

I would find another agent. There are value resorts available, your agent didn’t even bother to look.

It is true the night of the 28th is sold out, but only for 5 night stays, if you look for 14 night stays (possibly shorter), there are rooms available. Disney holds the last few rooms for longer stays, they would rather sell those last rooms to guests staying 14 nights than those staying 5 nights. You just have to know how to fool the system a little bit.

Do you think they may extend the free dining beyond Sept. 20? I plan on going Sept. 26.

  38. Keith Avatar
    Keith

    Karen

Extremely unlikely. They have never extended it before, and it has been very popular this year. What I do expect is a secondary discount, not free dining, that would cover more dates in August and September. It should be released after the free dining has expired, so keep checking back for updates.

We are DVC members and have annual passes. Do we qualify for the free dining plan? We will be there Sept 24-28 2008.

  40. Keith Avatar
    Keith

    Lamoine

Unfortunately, the Free Disney Dining offer expired back in June. Even then, DVC members were not eligible. To get the free dining, you had to have a package that included your resort and park passes, which does not work for DVC members staying on points.
